Today’s Dylan Dreyer recently talked about Savannah Guthrie and her future on the show with TMZ. Guthrie stepped down from her co-hosting duties after her mother, Nancy, was taken from her Tucson home on February 1. During the interview, when asked if her co-host would ever make a comeback, Dreyer said that Guthrie will return on the show, but is unsure about the timing.
“I do. None of us know what that looks like. She doesn’t know what that looks like. But we’re all open to it. We love her dearly, and we want her back,” said Dreyer.
Amid all the tension, Guthrie visited the Today set on March 5 and told her colleagues she plans to return to the show. The co-host even expressed her gratitude towards her coworkers for supporting her and her family at such a tough time. “I have every intention of coming back,” Guthrie told her colleagues, per the Today Show. “I don’t know how to come back, but I don’t know how not to. You’re my family. And I would like to try.”
Even Dreyer revealed in the interview that seeing Guthrie for the first time in over a month was “was exactly what we needed to just hug her, pray for her.” She added,“I think she needed us as much as we needed to see her. She wants to go back to life and doesn’t know how to do it, you know? So to just kind of show up, get the hugs from us, hear from us, see us face to face, I think it was important for all of us.”
Hoda Kotb has been filling in for Guthrie since February, marking her first return to the show since retiring early last year.
