US President Donald Trump sidestepped what he called the “toughest question” during a recent exchange with reporters, and it involved his wife, Melania Trump. The lighthearted moment happened aboard Air Force One on February 16, as the president fielded questions with the first lady seated nearby.
Donald Trump dodges question about his wife
The question centered on the couple’s Valentine’s Day plans. A reporter asked whether Donald Trump and his wife, Melania, did anything special for the holiday and whether he bought her flowers. “I better not tell you that,” he said with a laugh, before attempting to wrap up the conversation. “That’s the toughest question,” Donald Trump added.
While he avoided sharing personal details, Donald Trump did not hold back when it came to praising his wife. Referring to Melania Trump’s recently released self-titled documentary, he described her as a “movie star,” even though the project received largely negative critical feedback. “I’m proud of the fact, you know, her movie is so successful. It’s a tremendous hit, and she does a good job. She does very consequential work,” the president said.
He continued to applaud Melania’s role as first lady, suggesting that history would view her favorably. “I think you’re going to see in the end that she’s going to go down as one of the truly great first ladies. When you see what she’s doing with Russia, Ukraine and so many other things she’s doing… She’s done a good job. She works very hard,” he quipped.
The exchange offered a rare glimpse into the couple’s relationship dynamics, with Donald Trump clearly preferring to discuss his wife’s professional accomplishments rather than their personal Valentine’s Day traditions.
Moreover, Melania Trump recently issued a rare political statement, stepping briefly into the public discourse on her own terms. Meanwhile, her husband has previously revealed the thing she begs him not to do, calling it “so unpresidential,” offering another window into their private interactions (via Just Jared).
