Kate Hudson‘s Netflix sports comedy launched last year and quickly became a hit, receiving positive reviews and strong viewership. A week after Running Point‘s release, the streaming giant renewed it for a second season. Since then, there has been speculation about when the show would return for a new batch of episodes. Now, one of the show’s stars has offered a positive update about the same.
Running Point Season 2 release date could happen very soon
In a recent interview promoting his Amazon Prime Video series Fallout, Justin Theroux said he “had a [secret]” to share about Season 2 of Kate Hudson’s Netflix series. The actor behind Cam Gordon in Running Point told ScreenRant that he and the cast “were just given a tentative release date” for Season 2. He added that Season 2 was “in the pipeline,” further stating that viewers would “be hearing about [the details] shortly.”
Netflix confirmed Running Point Season 2 on March 6, 2025. The streamer released a video of Hudson expressing gratitude to fans for watching the show and for helping increase its renewal chances. “I’m just beyond thrilled because you’re really the reason why we’re able to come back and do another season,” she stated.
Five months later, the streaming giant confirmed that production on Season 2 had kicked off. Filming reportedly concluded on November 5, 2025.
Running Point Season 2 will pick up from where the previous season left off. Season 1 ended in a cliffhanger with Cam’s return from his drug rehab. It showed him at the office, intending to reclaim his position of Los Angeles Waves president from Hudson’s Isla, whom he named his successor at the start of the series before stepping down and going into rehab.
Notably, this development sets up a larger role for Cam, who recurred throughout Season 1, in Season 2. This is further reflected in Theroux being upped to a series regular alongside Uche Agada, who plays Dyson Gibbs.
Mindy Kaling, Elaine Ko, Ike Barinholtz, and David Stassen created Running Point, with Stassen serving as showrunner. Kaling, Barinholtz, and Stassen are also executive producers alongside Hudson, Linda Rambis, and Howard Klein.
Besides Hudson, Theroux, and Agada, Running Point Season 2 will star Brenda Song, Chet Hanks, Scott MacArthur, Drew Tarver, and Fabrizio Guido. Robert Townsend, Ken Marino, Tommy Dewey, Richa Moorjani, Jake Picking, Blake Anderson, Duby Maduegbunam, and Aliyah Turner have also joined the cast.
