Jake Paul has taken back his explosive statement against Bad Bunny in a series of new tweets after facing intense backlash. The professional boxer had sparked controversy after calling the Grammy-winning rapper a “fake American,” following his Super Bowl Halftime show performance.
Jake Paul backtracks on Bad Bunny after backlash
On Monday morning, Jake Paul made a series of X posts, walking back on his previous harsh words for Bad Bunny. The 29-year-old influencer addressed his usage of the word “fake” in his controversial tweet a day before.
“The problem with my tweet is the word fake being misinterpreted,” Paul wrote in a new tweet. “[Bad Bunny’s] not a fake citizen obviously bc hes Puerto Rican and I love Puerto Rico and all Americans who support the country. Moreso Bunny is fake bc of his values and criticism of our great country,” he added.
In a second tweet, Paul penned, “To clarify: I wasn’t calling anyone a “fake citizen” because they’re from Puerto Rico. I live in Puerto Rico, and I love Puerto Rico. I have used my platform to support Puerto Rico time and time again and will always do so.”
The actor continued, “But if you’re publicly criticizing ICE who are doing their job and openly hating on America, I’m going to speak on it. Period. That’s the same reason I called out Hunter Hess. If you benefit from a country and the platform it gives you, but publicly disrespect it at the same time, that’s what I mean by being a fake citizen. And I agree love is more powerful than hate. Love America.”
A few hours later, Jake Paul tweeted again, declaring, “Guys i love bad bunny idk what happened on my twitter last night ?? wtf.” Additionally, he changed his X bio to “Benito #1 fan.”
Paul faced criticism for slamming Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl LX Halftime Show in an X post on Sunday. His brother Logan Paul came to the Puerto Rican megastar’s defense, publicly voicing his disagreement.
