Widow’s Bay first teaser sets the stage for Apple TV series
Apple TV has released the first teaser for its upcoming 10-episode horror-comedy series Widow’s Bay, which will premiere globally on Wednesday, April 29, 2026. The first three episodes will debut on launch day, followed by new episodes every Wednesday through June 17.
Widow’s Bay stars Emmy Award winner Matthew Rhys as Mayor Tom Loftis, who is also an executive producer on the series. The show is created and executive-produced by Katie Dippold and directed and executive produced by Hiro Murai through his Chum Films banner. Murai directs five of the ten episodes.
Set in a quaint island town 40 miles off the coast of New England, the series follows Loftis as he tries to turn around a struggling community with no Wi-Fi and spotty cell service. The locals believe the island is cursed. According to the official synopsis, “He wants these people to respect him. They don’t. They think he is soft and cowardly. And he is.”
Loftis attracts tourists to the island, but old legends resurface. “After decades of calm, the old stories that seemed too ludicrous to be true start happening again,” the synopsis states. The series blends “genuine horror with character-driven comedy.”
Kate O’Flynn, Stephen Root, Kingston Rumi Southwick, Kevin Carroll, and Dale Dickey join Rhys in the ensemble cast. Apple Studios produces the series, with Carver Karaszewski and Claudia Shin also serving as executive producers. Ti West, Sam Donovan, and Andrew DeYoung direct additional episodes this season.
The production team filmed the series across Massachusetts in 2025, including locations in Worcester, Essex, Gloucester, and Rockport. Apple TV announced the series order in September 2024 and confirmed Matthew Rhys as the lead and executive producer by February 2025.
