Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista may be known for playing intimidating characters on screen, but behind the scenes, their connection runs much deeper. While promoting their new action comedy The Wrecking Crew, Momoa opened up about a friendship built on trust and comfort. What started as mutual admiration has quietly grown into something that feels a lot like family.
Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista discuss their brotherly bond
Momoa describes his relationship with Bautista as one rooted in ease rather than constant conversation. During a joint interview with People, Momoa explained that simply being around Bautista feels natural, even in silence. “I’m extremely comfortable even when we’re not talking,” he said, adding that he doesn’t feel pressure to fill space with words when they’re together.
Bautista shared that sentiment, emphasizing respect and pride as the foundation of their friendship. He told Momoa directly, “I love you, and I’m comfortable with you, and I respect you, and I’m proud of you.” For Bautista, working alongside someone he genuinely cares about changes the entire experience. “It’s never work when you work with people you love,” he added.
That closeness is why Momoa refers to Bautista as an “older brother.” He shared that Bautista is someone he could call at any time, no matter the situation. “I know I could call him at any moment for anything I need, and he’d be there … for my family,” Momoa said.
That bond carried straight into The Wrecking Crew, a Prime Video action-comedy filmed in Momoa’s home turf of Hawaii. The movie centers on two estranged brothers forced back together after their father’s mysterious death. One memory that stuck with them came after a long day on set, when they jumped on motorcycles and cruised along Hawaii’s beaches and winding mountain roads. Bautista remembers thinking the moment felt unreal. “I can’t believe we’re getting paid for this,” he said. Momoa responded, “The sun’s setting in Hawaii, and you’re right next to your buddy riding a Harley.”
