Blake Lively‘s legal battle continues to be in headlines after private messages from Ryan Reynolds defending his wife were unsealed in court. It prompted a public response from Reynolds’ representative amid the ongoing dispute involving Justin Baldoni.
Ryan Reynolds’ rep comments on Blake Lively situation
A spokesperson for Ryan Reynolds reportedly confirmed his support for his wife. The messages show Reynolds fiercely defending Lively against allegations from Justin Baldoni’s camp and criticizing the director’s behavior.
“Yes, Ryan got involved — what husband wouldn’t support his wife and the mother of his children?” the rep told Puck News. “He saw his wife fighting daily to stand up against sexual harassment in a private and respectful way, only to face retaliation for doing so.”
The rep continued, “If anything, Ryan feels like he wasn’t angry enough. He passionately believes in and will stand up for the basic right to a safe workplace free of harassment and retaliation for his wife and others. Then, now and always.”
The unsealed texts, sent to his agent at WME, Warren Zavala, in August 2024, show Reynolds’ frustration during It Ends With Us’s successful opening weekend. He expressed dismay that the moment was overshadowed by behind-the-scenes drama.
“I’m super frustrated because this is a moment in which Blake should be celebrating. She made this unbelievable win happen,” he wrote. “She WILLED this weekend into reality. Baldoni and these other buckets of dumb-dumb-juice should be acknowledging the speculation and gossip themselves. They should be jumping in front of it in the most full throated, unqualified way. Now.”
In other messages, Reynolds’ criticism of Baldoni was even more pointed. In a July 2024 text to a WME executive, he allegedly referred to the director as a “thoroughbred, predatory fraudster” and an “inexplicably toxic mess.”
He continued, “I’d put Blake’s reputation on trial any day of the week… In her experience (and mine) nobody has ever reached the empyrean heights of vile the way Justin Baldoni has.” The case continues to reverberate through Hollywood (via PEOPLE).
