Johnny Depp’s ex-wife Amber Heard says this years after infamous trial

According to a report by Variety, Amber Heard is speaking out about her experiences with ex-husband Johnny Depp. In a new documentary titled “Silenced,” Heard reportedly shares her thoughts on the trial’s impact on her life. The film explores how men accused of abuse use defamation lawsuits to silence women who speak out.

Directed by Selina Miles and produced with input from international human rights lawyer Jennifer Robinson, “Silenced” premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on Saturday, January 25. The film brings to the forefront cases of women, including a journalist, who faced obstacles in seeking justice due to multimillion-dollar defamation lawsuits.

Stating her reason behind joining the project, the 39-year-old said, “This is not about me. I have lost my ability to speak. I am not here to tell my story.” Furthermore, she bluntly confessed, “I don’t want to tell my story. In fact, I don’t want to use my voice anymore. That’s the problem.”

In an explosive claim, Heard described her involvement in the Depp v. The Sun case as a no-win situation. “The outcome of that trial depended on my participation, and I depended on the outcome of that trial. When I first met [Robinson], I immediately got the sense that she got the bigger picture. What has happened to me is an amplified version of what a lot of women live through,” explained Heard.

“I remember at the close of the trial, the idea that I could say something to the press came up. [Robinson] asked if I was sure about that. [I thought], ‘If they throw things at me, it will make this point more obvious.’ I didn’t understand it could get so much worse for me as a woman, using my voice,” she continued. Heard’s interview for “Silenced” marks her first film appearance since “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” in 2023.
