Former Colts RB Dies After Accidentally Shooting Himself

Former Indianapolis Colts and Central Michigan running back, Zurlon Tipton, died Tuesday after accidentally shooting himself.

The 26-year-old was reportedly at a local car dealership to get his car serviced. He reached into the back of his vehicle to grab a bag which contained two handguns and one discharged, hitting him in the abdomen.

According to WDIV:

The customer was pulling a duffel bag out the Wrangler when a gun inside it went off, striking him in the stomach.

He was recovering at a hospital but has since died from his injuries.

Tipton ran for 1,500 yards and led Central Michigan to a Little Cesar’s Bowl title before going undrafted in 2014. He was later signed by the Colts and worked his way up to second-string running back, scoring a touchdown in the AFC championship game.

The former running back was released by the Colts and arrested in Indiana last December after being accused of firing an assault rifle in a neighborhood. Police found a loaded 9mm handgun and a loaded Colt AR-15 assault rifle. He had a valid Michigan handgun license at the time of the arrest.
