Story Behind Sasha Banks’ Song

WWE.com interviewed Mountain Goats’ John Darnielle about his recently released, “Song for Sasha Banks.” After Banks requested a song from the indie band, Darnielle took time to familiarize himself with her story. Darnielle says that Banks reminds him of the late “Rowdy” Roddy Piper and showed a great detail of respect for professional wrestling with the following,

“They don’t really start to think about what it legit takes out of your body to do this work, right? You sacrifice your body to be a wrestler; it’s something you choose to do. That’s one of the things that has always been compelling about it to me, you know? You’re breaking off a piece of yourself to pursue your vision of who you want to be. That’s exciting to me.”

Darnielle also said that he won’t rule out writing more songs about WWE Superstars.
