To answer this question simply: yes! It’s been two years now that I’ve gone back and forth with Bullet Club and I’ve seen so many different formations and incarnations. For me personally, when I say things, especially on a live mic, a lot of is as true as it gets. I give the Young Bucks all the respect in the world; I think that they were really the first ones to really say ‘we don’t need the big machine behind us. We can do this on our own.’ That really helps the business as a whole; it helps all of us.
But at the same time, I’ve seen guys that jump on the Bullet Club bandwagon, and when I went out and got in Cody’s face and told him that he could have come [to Ring Of Honor] himself, but I don’t think that he had the balls to do that. He needed that Bullet Club rub, he needed that name to make sure that he didn’t flounder when he came to Ring Of Honor. I think that’s the easy way out; I think that makes him the biggest Melvin of them all, and it makes him a jellyfish with no backbone. If you don’t have the balls to come here and say ‘I can stand on my own and make a name for myself’, especially if you’re someone like Cody, coming off the history that he has and the career that he had before that, I find that hard to respect.
Marty [Scurll] as well; he had a great thing going. He was kicking up his own scene but he had to jump on that Bullet Club bandwagon too, and it’s like ‘huh. Did you guys not have the confidence to make it with your own name?’ They felt like they had to jump on this ‘gravy train’ and make sure it didn’t leave without you.
I think that where my biggest gripe with the Bullet Club and most of my disdain for Bullet Club comes from. It came off originally as something that was cool, organic, real, and now it comes off like it’s something like the McDonald’s of pro wrestling. You throw the new ‘quarter pounder’ on the menu and here’s Cody Rhodes’ new Bullet Club inspired t-shirt. It’s like here’s a giant eye roll from me.
