Professional Wrestling Exempt From Combative Sports Ban In Edmonton; Update On Postponed WWE Live Event

The Edmonton Journal is reporting the year long combative sports ban that was announced last month will no longer include professional wrestling.

We previously reported the moratorium on all combative sports led WWE to postpone a live event at Rogers Place on February 9th. That event has now been moved to the Sasktel Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Mayor Don Iveson offered the following comments to The Edmonton Journal:

“Wrestling got caught up in the much more complicated issues of fighter safety of mixed martial arts and boxing, and that was never our intent. And we are continuing to work through as quickly as possible the issues around mixed martial arts and boxing, but wrestling we were able to put back in business because they are entertainment and not sport.”
