WWE Postpones Live Event In Edmonton After City Imposes One Year Ban On Combat Sports

Thanks to John Kerby for the following:

WWE has postponed an upcoming live event at Rogers Place in Edmonton after a city wide ban on combat sports was introduced.

The Edmonton Journal is reporting the city of Edmonton has introduced a one-year moratorium on new combative sports events, possibly a reaction to the death of boxer Tim Hague in a June fight. According to the report, the moratorium takes effect Saturday and will continue until Dec. 31, 2018, “or until council provides further direction.”

The Edmonton Combative Sports Commission released the following statement saying it “will continue our work as a commission, using this time to move forward with the comprehensive policy review that had already been underway.”

Rogers Place, the venue that was going to host the WWE live event on February 9th, posted the following statement:

Following new guidelines established by Edmonton’s city council, WWE’s event on Friday, February 9 at Rogers Place has been postponed. The WWE is working closely with the local Commission, and hope to return with their sports entertainment events to Edmonton in the near future.
