On if the story was true:

EB: I don’t know, quite honestly, if I was asked to leave or not. I know that is going to be hard for people to believe but I do remember that I was at the funeral with my wife. There was a ton of tension between Rick’s family and I.

On Rick Rude’s Lloyd’s of London policy:

EB: Rick, like a lot of wrestlers at that time, Lloyd’s of London was offering to cover professional wrestlers so if they got hurt in the ring and could no longer perform there would be a pretty sizable payout. Lloyd’s of London stopped doing that many, many years ago because you can imagine the abuse and you get wrestlers in a situation where there is a huge payday at the end. You can imagine there were any number of attempts to take advantage of that situation. Now Rick had gotten hurt and Rick had a Lloyd’s of London policy and I don’t remember how much it was but there was a sizable payout made to Rick Rude by Lloyd’s of London. When you took those payouts you couldn’t ever wrestle again.

On how Rick’s Lloyd’s of London policy played into his dispute with Eric:

EB: Rick wanted WCW to pay off Lloyd’s of London so that Rick Rude could get back in the ring again. I couldn’t make that happen even if I wanted to. Which I didn’t but even if I really wanted to make that happen the people I would have to answer to at Turner Broadcasting… first of all, forget about the financial implications of it which were astronomical. There was legal exposure and there was a ton of risk. What if he got re-injured? (…) In Rick’s mind I could just wave a magic wand and write a check and make anything happen. That just wasn’t the case. Because I think he was angry or frustrated at me I am sure his family heard about it. I can only imagine the light I was put in because I wouldn’t let Rick get back in the ring.

On what he remembers from his exit of Rick’s funeral:

EB: Rick’s sister may have confronted me. I vaguely remember that but I remember kind of specifically looking at my wife and saying, “We gotta go. This is not good.” It became obvious I think to a couple people and that’s just not a situation you want to be a part of. Ever. Especially at a funeral. You just don’t want that. Honestly, I haven’t been to a wrestler’s funeral since and that’s part of that reason why.
