Details on How WWE Network Ranks Its Most Popular Shows and Why NXT Takeover Briefly Outranked WWE SummerSlam

During the week following WWE SummerSlam, The Wrestling Observer reported that NXT Takeover Brooklyn II actually outranked WWE SummerSlam as the most watched WWE Network show of the week, which came as a surprise to many. We then noted that the WWE Network takes into account the Video on Demand algorithm, and does not base its stats solely on total views.

Dave Meltzer noted on a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE confirmed to him the Network does indeed use the VOD figures when compiling stats for the most watched shows, and does not use total live stream views. Therefore, the reason why NXT Takeover Brooklyn II outranked WWE SummerSlam for a few days following the weekend is because more people watched Takeover via VOD, but more people watched SummerSlam live.

Eventually, SummerSlam did indeed top NXT Takeover, and became the most viewed Network show for that week.
