PWG Battle of Los Angeles: Night 1

September 2, 2016

Reseda, CA

(1) Marty Scurll def. Pentagon Jr. They broke the bottom rope during the match, which slowed down the show as they had to spend time fixing it after. Given that the show didn’t even start until about 9:30

(2) Ricochet def. Jeff Cobb

(3) John Hennigan (Mundo/Morrison) def. Matt Sydal

(4) Will Ospreay def. Fenix. Pretty much what you would expect. Just a ridiculous high flying spectacle that rivaled the Ospreay/Ricochet match.

(5) Zack Sabre Jr. def. Tommy End. The crowd was super into Tommy as it’s something of a “going away” weekend for him before WWE.

(6) Chris Hero def. Jushin Thunder Liger. Hero was playing heel because duh, it’s Jushin Liger and what else is he going to do. Said to be very good, and Liger really brought out everything for a rare singles match. He really has kept incredible care of his body and worked so smart, that at 51 he can still have the infrequent singles match and bring the house down.

(7) The Young Bucks & Adam Cole def. Dalton Castle & ReDragon. Fish and O’Reilly took on the part of “The Boys” even coming out dressed like them and did all the usual Dalton Castle entrance stuff. They even sold like they were jobbers for a huge chunk of the match, before taking off their masks and getting serious to build towards the finish. The Bucks hit a double Meltzer Driver for the pin. Cole was originally scheduled to be in BOLA but said on Twitter that he had no desire to be in the tournament and do anything but wrestle with the Young Bucks. What a heel.
