WATCH: 5 Worst WWE Draft Moments

After months of anticipation, the WWE Brand Split has finally arrived with the first Smackdown Live broadcast and the eagerly awaited WWE Draft! Which was…kind of disappointing. Here’s 5 reasons why…

5. FREE HUGS?

In Raw’s last fifth round draft pick – their 15th overall – Stephanie McMahon built up her next pick with talent acquisition with: “there’s no woman quite like her from NXT…”

The crowd began to cheer…

She’s talking about everyone’s favourite NXT lady wrestler Bayley!

And then Stephanie said “…Nia Jax.”

Oh yeah, nobody’s favourite NXT lady wrestler.

Bayley could still turn up as Sasha Banks’ mystery tag team partner at Battleground, but working the crowd like that was cruel.

4. NO BACKSTAGE SKITS

Because of Draft Center Live running simultaneously with Smackdown on the WWE Network, Vince McMahon and company presumably decided they didn’t have to show any locker room reactions.

WWE have done a terrible job at making the brand split feel important to the wrestlers themselves. As always, it’s more about the people in charge.

Back in the day, the show would cut between the draft picks and a room full of all WWE’s wrestlers watching live. That way you could see their immediate reactions while playing off of past friendships and rivalries with the rest of the roster.

Remember when the Dudleys were broken up in 2002? D-Von flipping out backstage was surprisingly emotional. Which brings us onto…

3. BREAK-UP-SKI

The Club are no more. AJ Styles has been drafted to Smackdown, while Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows are on Raw. Since their brilliant ‘Beat Up John Cena Day’ promo, they found the perfect balance between annoying and cool to stay just the right side of heel together. One of the most entertaining acts of the last few months has been broken up.
