Jushin Liger Done w/ New Japan Tournament?

It appears as though this year’s Best of the Super Juniors tournament may have been the last for the legendary Jushin Thunder Liger, who in a recent interview said he feels as though the veterans of New Japan are “being moved aside” to make room for the next generation of juniors stars. According to a translator, “I really don’t think I’ll be in the tournament next year. It’d be rude of me, quite frankly. This tournament is becoming an elite display of speed and technique, and to have a veteran like me there, it doesn’t fit.”

Liger, 51, competed in the first ever Top of the Super Juniors (the name was later changed) in 1988, along with a young Chris Benoit, CMLL legend Negro Casas, Owen Hart, 2 Cold Scorpio and Fit Finlay. He has competed in the tournament an incredible 25 times, only missing the event in 1995 and 2000, which are both the years he instead won the Super J-Cup.
