It appears that Hiroshi Tanahashi will be taking a much-needed break, and has been pulled from the remainder of New Japan’s ongoing Best of the Super Juniors tour dates. The seven time IWGP Heavyweight Champion, who has been the company’s flagship performer for years, has been badly banged up for quite some time, but with the loss of top stars such as AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura, Gallows, Anderson and Kota Ibushi, he has remained on full-time.

New Japan ran an injury angle at the Super Juniors opening night, which saw IWGP Intercontinental Champion Kenny Omega smash Tanahashi’s arm between a ladder multiple times, with considerable assistance from other members of the Bullet Club.

While we are still waiting on more information, it is not likely this will be a very long break for Tanahashi, who is still scheduled to challenge Omega for his title at the annual Dominion show on June 19th.

Satoshi Kojima will be replacing Tanahashi in all of his scheduled Super Junior tour matches.
