Camp WWE is set to air its first episode after Payback on the WWE Network. Seth Green is part of the crew that helped to put together the show and he spoke with IGN. You can see the entire interview here. Highlights below:

IGN: The ads for Camp WWE call it an adult cartoon. But then the disclaimers before the episodes really go all out. They’re in your face, like “Warning! Seriously, this is not for kids! Here’s how you can block this content if you need to!” What’s it like to have created WWE’s first ever TV-MA content?

Seth Green: Well, I don’t think I approached it from a TV-MA way of thinking, or what the network precedent was, but more of that I was told that they wanted a cartoon that would appeal to those who maybe wouldn’t watch some of the other programming the Network. Something for people who watched Archer and South Park and other animated shows like that. So that was what we set out to do. To make a show using these characters in a way that would appeal to people looking for something different. And who may not know that you could take these characters to these types of places. And you know what? It was an amazing experience. Everyone was so game for it. It was awesome.

IGN: Thanks to Robot Chicken, you’re known for taking older, beloved cartoons and toys and giving them a comical, mature spin. What was it like doing this for wrestling?

Green: I have the benefit of being able to work with companies and properties that I love and admire. And I grew up with wrestling and the WWE. And the product means a lot for me and I have a lot of respect for it. And WWE has so many well-known characters and stories. I don’t know if you’ve seen Max Landis’ video dissertation about Triple H’s evolving character and story through the years, but it’s things like that that can show just how layered and deep this world is. And the WWE is like Marvel, in a sense, with their intellectual property. And there’s so much to explore about this world and we’re trying to do new things with these really famous personas. And I can really only do this with things that I enjoy myself. And if someone sees it and doesn’t like it than I can at least know that it was something I had fun doing.
