Updated Card For Lucha Underground Season Finale Being Taped This Weekend; Update on the Promotion’s Future & Late Summer Plans

lucha undergroundLucha Underground will tape their two hour season finale this week, set to air on August 5th. The show will wrap up all the major storylines for the promotion, leading into what is hopefully a short summer break.

There is currently no contract or concrete plans in place for a second season of Lucha Underground, but obviously they are still in negotiations and trying to work out what come next. The original idea was for the show to be a long-term thing for El Rey, who has essentially built the channel around the wrestling series, but it will all come down to money.

There were talks of attempting some kind of house show tour during the off-season, but according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that seems unlikely unless they can sign Rey Mysterio to help boost sales in the U.S. market. Even if they do sign Mysterio, which has always been the goal ever since bringing in Alberto – and again, the two of them are major expenses – there’s a good chance he wouldn’t be interested in working house shows for any significant stretch of time.

As of now, this is what the 8/5 season finale looks like:

Lucha Underground Championship

Prince Puma vs. Mil Muertes

Pentagon Jr. vs. Vampiro

Alberto El Patron vs. Johnny Mundo

Lucha Underground Trios Championship

Angelico & Son of Havoc & Ivelisse vs. The Disciples of Death

El Texano Jr. vs. Blue Demon Jr.
