Congratulations to the New NWA World Women’s Champion, Santana Garrett

In the 1890s, Josie Wahlford became the first ever recognized World Women’s champion in professional wrestling. The National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) has continued to keep this championship title’s long history through the years, and the title has been held by greats including the Fabulous Moolah, Leilani Kai, and Amazing Kong. Another championshipbranched off from this title in 1983, which was the WWF/WWE Women’s Championship. However, that title was retired in 2010. While the WWE has the Divas Championship that was established in 2008, the NWA World Women’s Championship is recognized as the most prestigious female championship in the world.

Saturday, February 7, 2015 in Plant City, Florida, the reigning NWA World Women’s Champion Barbi Hayden faced off against former iMPACT Knockout Santana Garrett. After a grueling back and forth battle, Santana was able to pick up the victory following a super kick and her Shining Star Press (a springboard into the rope, then into a standing back flip press).

This loss ended Barbi Hayden’s title reign at an impressive 378 days. Another former NWA World Women’s Champion, Lexie Fyfe, was on hand to witness the title change. Fyfe has been the most influential female wrestler that has helped Santana along the way. Santana will be defending her newly won title on upcoming NWA live events as well as other independent professional wrestling events. Don’t miss a chance to see the new world champion when she comes to your town!
