TNA Bound for Glory News: Original Plans for Team 3D, Samoa Joe, Wrestle-1 Stars & More Scraped for the PPV

bound for gloryIt seems there have been a lot of changes made to the match card for TNA Bound for Glory over the past week, mostly due to complications with the current champions. As we have reported several times, Japan takes the wrestling business more seriously than the American market, and falsely promoting a wrestler as champion – when in reality they dropped the title at a previous TV taping – would be considered fraud.

The original plan was to have Team 3D face off against The Wolves at the PPV. The Wolves were pulled from the event, and replaced with a makeshift team of Tommy Dreamer and Abyss. Abyss was penciled in as an opponent for Bram, but since Team 3D had to be in the country for the Hall of Fame ceremony, it made more sense to use him in the tag match, and pull Bram from the show.

Samoa Joe and Low Ki have been on the books for awhile, but it was decided to add Wrestle-1 star Kaz Hayashi for two reasons: 1) because Joe and Low Ki are both involved in a complicated X-Division title situation, and 2) Joe is currently working through an injury, and Hayashi’s wrestling ability is more than enough to compensate if need be.

MVP will face Kazma Sakamoto (Lord Tensai’s aid in WWE), but the original plan was to put him up against Ryota Hama. Hama ended up booked against Ethan Carter III to extend the amount of TNA vs. Wrestle-1 matches on the card. There are several top Wrestle-1 talents that were not booked, as the company didn’t want Bound for Glory to come off as a Wrestle-1 PPV, potentially alienating American buyers.
