Last-Minute WWE RAW Script Changes Effect Dean Ambrose, John Cena & More, Steve Austin Possibly Returning to WWE TV?

Last-Minute RAW Rewrites

raw reactionVince McMahon made the call to re-write almost the entire WWE RAW script this Monday night. The show started at 8:00 as usual, but the re-writes didn’t even begin until 6:40, and the show wasn’t completed by the time the episode began. Randy Orton vs. Dean Ambrose had been the advertised main event earlier in the day, but it was changed to John Cena vs. Randy Orton at the last minute, with Ambrose and Kane earlier on.

It’s likely RAW was changed to stop the recent trend of ratings tanking in the third and final hours. This week’s third hour did increase from the second, but neither quite lived up to the first, which saw an even 4 million viewers.

Steve Austin Returning to TV?

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that because of WWE’s recent heavy push for “Stone Cold” Steve Austin merchandise, it’s likely we’ll see his return to television to help promote sales. There is a deal in place between the two sides, where WWE promotes Austin’s podcast on Monday Night Raw, and Austin picks matches from the WWE Network to advertise on his show each week.

KILLAM: It’s worth pointing out this is really just speculation, and Austin has by no means confirmed a return to television. People are always talking about “one more match” for Stone Cold, but he’s said a dozen times or more that it takes months to prepare for “one more match”, and unless the payoff is really good, and the story is really intriguing, it’s not worth considering. It takes a good amount just to get him to make an appearance, like at WrestleMania XXX this year, and even that was changed on him at the last minute.
