alberto del rioWWE Pushing for Non-Compete Extension

According to a new report, Alberto del Rio’s 90-day non-compete contract does not apply to his working in Mexico. This is an odd move for WWE, as he has major star power in his home country, but it’s likely this was something the former world champion worked out to protect himself during his last contract negotiation. While he will be appearing at AAA’s TripleMania event this Sunday, he is not scheduled to compete in a match.

WWE is attempting to lock him down with an even longer non-compete, much like they did with Jim Ross almost a full year after he was let go from the company. They would have to continue paying him his contractual downside, but it would keep him off competing television for quite some time. WWE would obviously like to keep del Rio away from TNA, who is extremely interested in bringing him in, but also from AAA who is expanding into the U.S. on television.

Rey Mysterio Not Attending TripleMania

While there have been reports that Rey Mysterio was invited to TripleMania, the Observer is stating that WWE was not asked, and Mysterio is still under exclusive contract with the company. That doesn’t mean that Rey wasn’t asked directly, as he has quite a few contacts within AAA, but unless something hugely scandalous takes place, the former WWE Champion will not be at TripleMania.
