Latest Backstage News on Ricardo Rodriguez’s WWE Release and Why He Wasn’t Being Used as a Wrestler

Nick Paglino

file_278471_0_ricardo-rodriguez-smallAccording to The Wrestling Observer, Ricardo Rodriguez asked for his WWE release as he was frustrated with the company not using him as a wrestler.

In recent months, Ricardo had been working as El Local and was teaming up with Kalisto in NXT, however when Ricardo went down with an injury his spot was given to Sin Cara.

WWE also had issues with Ricardo’s weight, and reportedly set a weight goal for him which he was having trouble maintaining.

Ricardo was working under both a talent and announcers contract, and his talent contract had only two weeks left on it when he asked for his WWE release. With budget cuts ongoing in the company, a three man Spanish announce team was too much, so he likely felt he had little options in the company.
