MLB Player Given WWE Title

As we previously reported, Yoenis Cespedes, this year’s MLB Home Run Derby Champion, was given a replica WWE Title as well as the customary Derby winner trophy. WWE wrote about the subject, including a Tweet from current WWE World Heavyweight Champion John Cena. WWE posted the following:

The Champ is (still) here.

Oakland A’s outfielder Yoenis Céspedes famously sported his own WWE Championship when he won last year’s Home Run Derby, and the slugger broke out the hardware again Monday night when he captured his second consecutive Home Run title – only the second player in history to do so. Céspedes defeated Todd Frazier of the Cincinnati Reds in the final round of the tournament, and modeled his WWE Title front and center alongside the Home Run Derby trophy, raising both proudly into the sky as he addressed the crowd through a translator. He caught the eye of current WWE World Heavyweight Champion John Cena as well, who shouted out the two-time title winner via Twitter at the end of the night.

Next stop: SummerSlam?

Cespedes’ win is his second straight, winning the contest last year in Queens, New York, when the New York Mets hosted the 2013 All Star festivities at Citi Field. You can view Cena’s tweet below:
