New United States Champion Crowned on Monday Night Raw; Has the Sheamus Heel Turn Already Begun?

Mike Killam

sheamusIn a surprising turn of events, Sheamus won a 20-man over the top rope Battle Royal to become the new United States Champion.

Most of the roster worked together to eliminate Big Show and Mark Henry from the match, with the final five competitors coming down to Ambrose, Ryback, Curtis Axel, Sheamus, and Jack Swagger. The champ single-handedly eliminated both members of Rybaxel and Swagger, but walked into a Brogue Kick from Sheamus, who went on to win the match.

The match was announced prior to the start of Raw, and marks the second time in four days that Ambrose was forced to defend his title against what some would consider "unfair odds". This is, of course, part of the ongoing rivalry between The Shield and Evolution, as WWE COO continues to place the "Hounds of Justice" into matches with seemingly insurmountable odds.

As we have been reporting, the WWE has plans to turn Sheamus heel in the near future. With the crowd reaction overwhelmingly negative towards his win, that turn may have begun on Raw tonight.
