BJ Whitmer Vacates AIW Championship Due to Injury

The following has been sent to WZ:

CLEVELAND, OH – At Ring of Honor’s August 3 event in Toronto, BJ Whitmer was seriously injured by a ring apron piledriver. After consulting with physicians and AIW management, it has been determined that Whitmer—owner of the record for longest reign as AIW Intense Division Champion—would be unable to defend his championship at our Gleaming the Cube event on August 30. Per BJ Whitmer’s request, the title has been vacated.

In other unfortunate news, Uhaa Nation—scheduled to face “Walking Weapon” Josh Alexander in his return to the promotion after a year of injuries/commitments to Japan—has been forced to cancel his appearance at August 30th’s Gleaming the Cube due to those Japanese obligations.

With Whitmer on the mend and Nation on his way to the land of the rising sun, AIW management has decided to put the now-vacant Intense Division Championship up for grabs in a six-man ladder match. Louis Lyndon and Josh Alexander—Whitmer and Nation’s scheduled opponents, respectively—have been entered into the match. Joining them are AIW favorites “M-Dogg” Matt Cross, Marion Fontaine, and Flip Kendrick. In addition, making his AIW debut in this match, Andrew Everett, the former Chiva Kid, will also contend for the Intense Division Championship. It’s hard to imagine another match on the calendar this year matching this six-way ladder match in terms of sheer aerial insanity, and the winner will come away with a championship signifying its holder as one of the most innovative on the scene today.

Gleaming the Cube takes place on August 30 in Cleveland, Ohio, at the legendary Turners Hall. Tickets for this event can be purchased at http://www.shop.aiwrestling.com. For more information on #CUBE and AIW, visit our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/aiwrestling.
