WWE Funding Research for Chris Nowinski Institute; Treating Disease That May Have Caused Chris Benoit Tragedy

As announced by The Boston University Center for the Study of Traumatic Encephalopathy, WWE is donating $1.2 Million to the research of Sports Legacy Institute, founded by former Superstar Chris Nowinski. SLI is dedicated to treating the degenerative brain disease that comes from consist exposure to concussions and other head trauma.

In recent years, many American football players have been diagnosed with CTE – some retrospectively – but the condition grew to popularity for the first time in medical circles, after the tragic death and multiple homicide of former WWE star Chris Benoit.

Many WWE Superstars have committed to testing themselves for the condition, and WWE Executive Triple H spoke for his company, stating "WWE is proud to help advance this critical research to help anyone at risk of suffering CTE. WWE has been, and will continue to be, very proactive on taking measures to ensure the health and wellness of our talent."
