WRP’s Jeff Katz On WWE Storytelling, Controversial Characters

Wrestling Revolution Project creator Jeff Katz recently spoke to PWPonderings about his WRP promotion. The following are highlights from the interview.

On WWE and their style of story telling: "I'm just tired of lowest common denominator, I'm tired of dumbing it down…I'm 33 years old, I don't want to see some guy kissing a 65 year old ass."

On having characters with high brow/taboo subtext: "I just really wanted to go out..and deal with themes that are intelligent and reflect what's going on in the world and actually go, every other field does this and wrestling seems to run from this, and not go the most obvious way of doing this."

On using Japanese wrestling stars: "I originally had a very prominent role written for a Japanese star…I really tried to do stereotype busting characters for this because I was tired of that stuff…I would have brought in Shinsuke Nakamura and made him look like a million bucks as a bad ass. American kids get Japanese culture."
