Rock’s Movie Falls Short Of Vin Diesel’s “The Pacifier”

Vin Diesel’s latest vehicle claimed first place at the box office this weekend as ‘The Pacifier’ beat industry estimates by a strong margin to take a projected $30.2 million this weekend. The movie has positioned itself to easily overcome its cost when future domestic and international earnings are taken into account.

‘Be Cool,’ the sequel to ‘Get Shorty,’ exceeded estimates from various sources with $23.5 million for the weekend. The movie’s performance is not bad when taking into its downright horrible reviews from nearly every critic in the country. This would be the third-highest opening for a film featuring The Rock, behind The Mummy Returns and The Scorpion King.

Rounding out the top five were ‘Hitch,’ ‘Diary Of A Mad Black Woman’ and ‘Million Dollar Baby.’

The other new opening was something of a disaster as ‘The Jacket’ could only scoop up $2.7 million. Although the movie was on less than half the screens of the other two new films, its opening was still abysmal.
