Details On Backstage Chaos At ECW Hardcore Homecoming

Tim Brown

— PWInsider is reporting that when Terry Funk came to the ring to announce that there would be barbed wire in the main event, there was a lot of confusion going on. Also, at one point the ring crew with the barbed wire was ordered backstage, and it appeared that there was some sort of backstage debate. The show was literally put on hold for about two minutes.

It is known that barbed wire, along with several household items used as weapons, have been banned from wrestling events. The state athletic commission made the decision, feeling the use of them by companies such as Combat Zone Wrestling and the new defunct Xtreme Pro Wrestling was unsafe.

They ended up continuing to take all the ropes off the ring, and replacing them with barbed wire. Making the main event for the evening, an no-rope barbed wire deathmatch between Terry Funk, Shane Douglas, and Sabu.

It is unknown what exactly the backstage commotion was about, but we hope to have more details shortly.
