WWE Touts DVD Sales, UPN Profits By Moving SmackDown!

– In a new WWE.com article, the wrestling titan touts its very successful DVD sales. The article highlights the results from the Billboard Sports DVD list, which lists “Tombstone,” “Great American Bash” and “WrestleMania 21” as the top-selling sports or recreational digital versatile discs.

Also hyped in the article are the upcoming DVDs based on Ultimate Warrior and Bret Hart.

– Right off the bat, by moving SmackDown! to Fridays, UPN has made Thursdays more revenue-friendly. UPN will get $179,000 per thirty second commercial during “Everybody Hates Chris,” which is astounding for the network. Last year, WWE SmackDown! only brought in an estimated $30,500 per thirty second spot. Even though SmackDown! consistently tops the viewership rankings for UPN, the network’s other shows are considered more advertiser-friendly (all of the other Thursday night shows are expected to price better).
