News On WWE Roster Cuts, Heat/Velocity Update

Brian Cantor

At this week’s WWE RAW and SmackDown! tapings, management reassured the lower-card wrestlers that the loss of WWE Heat and WWE Velocity will not result in further roster cuts. The announcement lifted a huge weight off the shoulders of many WWE workers, who were of the impression that another wave of roster cuts was impending.

For the time being, WWE intends to continue producing its B-shows for international markets. And, while USA Network has not expressed interest in picking up the shows, there remain options for broadcasting the matches in domestic markets.

This week’s Ross Report teases a big announcement regarding the future of Heat and Velocity, which certainly implies that they will continue in some form. If USA’s disinterest in airing the shows prevails, WWE will likely continue its attempt to build a stronger web presence by putting at least some of the matches on the Internet. Since the shows are already being produced for international markets, WWE also possesses the ability to offer syndicated versions of Heat and Velocity on American television.
