Update On Austin’s Movie, Backstage News & Notes Inside

The final numbers for the second weekend of The Condemned are in, and it saw a weekend gross of $1,263,036, down over 66% from last weekend ($3,807,595). It finished in 12th place for the weekend. The movie was in the same amount of theatres as the opening weekend, which was 2,310. The movie has grossed $6,210,481 thus far. In WWE camp, there was genuine fear, what with Spiderman 3 coming out during The Condemned’s second week in, that the drop would be more than usual.

Backstage at Backlash, the word is that everyone was quiet regarding the subject of the movie. About the only comment coming out of the show was Vince McMahon blaming a lack of promotion aside from that done by WWE. When “The Marine” opened slow out of the gate, considering its budget, the impression was given that the movie was doing what was expected. With movie industry projections hovering between $6 and $7 million for the opening of The Condemned, there was no pretending that it was okay this time around.

One secret about The Condemned, likely because it would have led to even more negative reviews, is that Vince McMahon was far more hands-on when it comes to the movie’s script than was ever let out. He had a major hand in re-writing the script, as they went through numerous re-writes and overhauls.
