TNA Genesis PPV Review 11/11/07

The show opened with a cheesy rendition of the National Anthem. They could have at least had someone sing it, but it was a classy move by TNA nonetheless being that it was the day before Veterans Day. The opening package started with swimming sperm and I was a little confused as to why they wanted to show a baby developing instead of something a little more hardcore. Letâs get on with the rest of the night, shall we?
The first match of the night was Black Reign taking on Abyss. I was begging for this one to be a violent encounter. I also had a feeling that someone was inside that box that Black Reign brought out. We will get back to that in a minute. I guess the rule of thumb in TNA is if you set up a weapon to use on an opponent, you will be the one that suffers the consequence. I think Mick Foley lost his barbed-wire bat and wants it back. What did Dustin get choke slammed onto when Abyss threw him off the entrance ramp? I love the rat. You got to love the rat! I have to admit that I was a little disappointed by the lack of bloodshed. Who is the Boogeyman wannabe that came out of the box? I am just kidding; he did look pretty cool and had quite the physique.
Jeremy Borash continues to come along and has talent I never knew existed. The old who is in the limo game reared its ugly head again at the beginning of the PPV. Itâs a good thing the Motor City Machine Guns kept their interview to a minimum.
The next match was Team 3D vs. The Motor City Machineguns. The TNA crowd sure does love Sabin and Shelley and for good reason. The match was actually a lot better than I thought it would be. The MCM reminded me of the Rockers or Hardy Boyz, but with even better chemistry. Give credit to Team 3D for hanging with those guys. However, I am not a big fan of Team 3D using the Legion of Doomâs finisher all the time. The Motor City Machine Guns are for real and the X-Division has just laid claim to the Tag Team Division.
Now letâs discuss the female side of things. Gail Kim successfully defended her title against ODB, Angel Williams, and Roxy Laveaux. Anybody know what ODB is drinking? Why was BG James wearing a Rhino shirt? Furthermore, why does TNA insist on using VKM as cheerleaders? That is a big waste of talent in my opinion. Angel Williams missed quite a few spots, but the knockouts did prove they could wrestle! I am still convinced more than ever that ODB is a man. The Great Muta would have been proud of Roxyâs spraying mist during the match. Gail Kim might as well kiss that belt goodbye once Amazing Kong getâs her title shot.
In the next segment with Eric Young and James Storm, it was hard to tell if Storm was really drunk or not. Anybody notice the belt they had. It looked a lot like another companyâs foam belt. I guess we will never know. ï I loved Karen Angleâs dress for obvious reasons.
Next on tap was âThe Guruâ Sonjay Dutt vs. Black Machismo. It was the best gimmick in TNA vs. the worst gimmick in TNA. Regardless of the gimmicks though, these boys can go in the ring. Dutt pulled off an amazing moonsault into a back flip. You would have to see it to believe it. I wonder what Randy Savage thinks of Jay Lethal? SoCal Val finally united with Machismo. I look forward to more of this. Team 3D really doesnât like the X-Division if you didnât notice. They laid into both Lethal and Dutt. Taking the X-Division Championship Belt as hostage is brilliant!
The next bout saw the Steiner Brothers vs. Styles and Tomko for the World Tag Team Titles. Isnât it nice to see a wrestling company with a great tag team division? Rick Steiner almost ended Tomkoâs career with a botched Death Valley Driver. Hey Rick, get in the weight room with your brother! At least the Dog Faced Gremlin can still take a viscous chair shot to the skull.
Robert Roode is just perfect on the mic and off. This was a match that I looked forward to the most. It wasnât the blockbuster I thought it would be, but it was decent. Did anyone catch Samoa Joe trip and fall on his face? That must have been embarrassing. Roode showed a huge display of strength when he picked up the big Samoan for a pile driver which he connected on. What happened to Ms. Brookes? All of a sudden, she is on the floor. Was this intentional? Hmmmmm.
Before Kaz and Christian Cage got underway, there was another flawless pre match interview with the Coalition.
Match of the Night: I had a feeling it would be this ladder match between Cage and Kaz. I sure delivered. Looks like Kaz had made his vest right before he came out. Christian got busted open early in the match after the ladder hit right above his eye. I canât wait to see that shiner. âThat was awesomeâ chants filled the arena throughout this match and the fans were dead on. It hurt me just to watch Christian and Kaz take some of the shots they did with the ladder. They both had to be in tremendous pain. Kaz could have literally broken his leg. Christian has already earned my respect, but Kaz just did. It didnât look like Christian was too happy with his boyâs interference in the match.
OK, there is no way James Storm funneled whiskey. If he did, he also just earned my respect. James Storm falling over was probably the funniest part of the PPV. I donât think itâs that hard to play this role for Storm. Borash kept me laughing by grabbing the flask on his way out.
It was now time for the Main Event of the evening. Kurt Angle and Kevin Nash took on Sting and the newest arrival to TNA, Booker T. It took longer to introduce Stingâs partner Booker T, than Undertaker walking to the ring. I didnât think they were ever going to bring him out. Even though it wasnât a huge shocker, it was great to see Booker in TNA. It was also cool watching 4 current and former World Champions inside the same ring. It was definitely a star studded main event. Nash looked to be in good shape as well. You could tell there was a little ring rust, but not much for the Silver Fox.
I have to admit, it was very cool seeing Angle, Nash, Booker, and Sting in the same match. However, none of them were TNA born stars. Sharmell even came out to scrap with Karen Angle. We got two debuts for the price of 1! Looks like AJ and Tomko may have a new leader in Kurt Angle. Christian didnât look too pleased and neither am I. I donât want the Coalition to split up. Overall the show was pretty good and didnât have a bad match. I canât believe that there wasnât a title change all night though and I have to give the PPV a B+. Till next time.
