COLUMN: The Authority Strikes Back

Breaking the Silence

So Glenn Gilbertti wants to take a shot at me? Something tells me he must have read the wrong article or âThe Disco Queen❠still believes one day he will get over with the fans by criticizing us writers. Ratings at an all time high you say? If I remember correctly, WCW had experienced years of success with some of the highest ratings on cable television. What ever happened to that company? Hmmmm. Now I am out to bury TNA? I spent 2 ½ years working with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling. Since coming back to Wrestlezone in 2007, I have been nothing but supportive of TNA and if you did your research, you would know that I am probably their biggest fan.

So why the criticism? Simply put, I want this company around for years to come and I see them going down a path similar to that of Ted Turner’s wrasslin company. It was time to call them out. Why? Because it was time for them to step their game up. With Wrestlemania just around the corner, the WWE has put on some pretty entertaining shows with story lines that revolve around wrestling, not a man dressed as a shark. All I wanted was TNA to get back to what they do best and that’s wrestle. This is what brought them to the dance in the first place. If I wanted to laugh for 2 hours, I would turn on Comedy Central. Just because half of your career was just that, a joke, don’t start degrading people who have strong opinions concerning an industry they love.

Now I don’t want to start a war of words with Glenn Gilbertti, I do think it’s time that these past or current wrestling personalities cut us a break. I am a fan. I speak for the fans. Sure, not all people agree with what I have to say, but at least they respect another fan’s opinion. After I wrote the article about TNA, my Inbox was full of fans all over the globe thanking me for finally posting a review that they agreed with entirely. Three individuals, just three, had wrote me to disagree with what I had to say about the current state of TNA. In fact, the general consensus was that we all wanted TNA to change for the better.

To be completely honest, I am thrilled to be working alongside veterans of the squared circle such as Gilbertti, Raven, Chris Masters, Konnan, Scott Hudson, and Kevin Kelly. I enjoy reading their articles from week to week which are very entertaining to say the least. We all have opinions about this great sports entertainment industry, but that’s all they are, opinions. We still tune in every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and every so often, Sunday nights to get our fix of professional wrestling. It’s a way of life for most of us and I am thankful for those who put in so much hard work and dedication into entertaining the fans night in and night out. The fans, which includes myself, have spent a lot of our hard earned money to order the Pay Per Views and attend the shows when they come to our area. Hell, I even paid to see the Disco Inferno at one point in my life.

In closing, I will gladly take on the responsibility of speaking for the fans. I always ask the readers for feedback and read every single email sent. I won’t back down to any of the athletes who have had the good fortune to make it in and industry that’s so tough to break into. All of you at some point or another have earned my respect in some shape or form. If Raven, Gilbertti, Hulk Hogan, John Cena, Jeff Jarrett, Bret Hart, Ric Flair, or any other professional wrestler have anything to say about what is written in the so called dirt sheets, you can bet I will be reading and ready to defend myself. This business was built around the fans who fill those seats in arenas, studios, or bingo halls around the globe. We will be heard, we will not back down, and we will stay loyal.
