Quick TNA Impact Review

By: Chris â<80><9c>The Authorityâ<80> Schultz

Going into today’s Against All Odds Pay-Per View, TNA had only one Thursday Night Impact show left to get fans really interested into ordering the show. Was it enough to bolster the buy rate for th PPV today? Absolutely not! Now don’t get me wrong, Impact wasn’t that bad and to my surprise, they actually pulled off a great show for at least one hour of the two hour scheduled broadcast. Personally, the only intriguing matches of the night would be the Abyss vs. Judas Mesias and Booker T. vs. Robert Roode match. The battle of the TNA monsters should get ugly and expect to see some bloodshed. On the other hand, Booker T and Roode should put on a wrestling clinic. The rest of the PPV card seems to lack interest. So, let’s get onto why Impact went from good to bad.

TNA hit a home run by starting the night with a great X-Division title match. Both Homicide and Johnny Devine put on a heck of a match which was fast paced and exciting. Gentleman, this is what TNA is all about. Devine must have a rubber neck after suffering what looked to be a career ending Gringo Killer performed by Homicide. The icing on the cake was Hernandez giving Devine a Border Toss which saw him flying across the ring, landing right on that incredible neck.

The night became even more interesting when Team 3D and Devine left The Motor City Machineguns and Black Machismo into a pool of their own blood and splinters from broken tables. The thing I liked about this was the fact Team 3D was back to what they do best and that is unleashing hell on their opponents. Less talk and more action helped give the match at Against All Odds a little more luster. If, and this is a big if, this momentum heads into the PPV, their match could be off the charts.

Although the Kaz and Black Reign feud continues to get more weird, both wrestlers had a decent match which saw four rat cages on a pole. Even though Kaz pulled down the cage containing the real rat, Black Reign took back his property by inflicting damage with that violent foreign object he brings to the ring with him. It would be in TNA’s best interest to end this ordeal in order to get both Kaz and Black Reign back working different story lines. The key to all this being, too much of a good thing could be bad.

The only other high point of the night was Tomko coming to the aid of his longtime partner Christian Cage. Now that Tomko supposedly is realigned with Cage, the odds of The Instant Classic winning back his title at the PPV are a little better. Should be interesting to see how this all plays out.

The rest of the show had me questioning the creative team in TNA yet again. AJ Styles continues to play the role of an idiot wearing a stupid crown, BG James thinks a tag team with his 70 year old father is going to get over, and Scott Steiner lowered to working a feud with â<80><9c>The Maple Leaf Muscleâ<80> Petey Williams. On top of all that, Samoa Joe is more concerned about signing a multi year contract with Kevin Nash playing the role of his sidekick. This is absolutely disgusting. Both Samoa Joe and Matt Morgan show up only to not wrestle on a wrestling show.

The dumbest and most useless match of the night came when Sharkboy teamed with Curry Man (Why Daniels, Why?) vs. The Rock N Rave Infection. Did Glenn Gilbertti book this match? I felt like I was at the circus while watching 3 of the worst gimmicks in wrestling history compete in the 6 sided ring. You call this funny? OK, maybe I am being too hard, there might have been some 7 year olds who really got a kick out of the stupid costumes and Guitar Hero routine. My advice would be to can all 3 gimmicks and go back to the drawing board.

I will be back soon with my review of the Against All Odds Pay-Per-View. Remember, I don’t hate TNA, contrary to some people’s belief. I want this organization to succeed and I still consider myself a huge fan of the company. This is called constructive criticism. TNA still has a good thing going, but that can all go South overnight. The PPV’s usually come through and I hope tonight is no exception. We will have to wait and see. Till then, keep watching, and keep reading.
