Sorry for the late posting, fans. I had to run out and get myself a new computer and lost all my bookmarks and passwords, but Iâm back up and running now.
With the Road to WrestleMania currently being travelled full speed ahead, Raw and Smackdown will no doubt be kicking things up a notch. (Especially considering the price of the big PPV has reportedly been raised.) Leaving that aside, this weekâs episode of Smackdown! certainly held its own and more.
Entering the show first thing was Edge and his cronies, after which Edge cut what was probably the best promo Iâve seen out of him ��” at least in recent memory. He talked himself up big time and touted that he would be the one to end Undertakerâs WM streak. Unfortunately for Edge and his crew, Taker took issue with these statements.
Now while you all probably saw Taker take out the entire crew, save Edge who eventually ran from the ring like a âscalded dog,â Iâve got to give some props to the camera work and planning for this bit. Closing in so tightly on the near-insane looking eyes of Edge just before the âgongâ and blackout had a truly amazing effect on the drama of the moment.
Thing is ��” if Edge canât stop Undertaker with two of his henchmen in tow, how does he expect to defeat him one-on-one? Chances are weâll see all sorts of twists and interference during the big match next month, but Iâm still putting my money on Taker to continue his streak.
Next, Iâve got to give major props to Jimmy Wang Yang and Shelton Benjamin for putting on one hell of a match tonight. This one was back and forth, but Benjamin won out between the two high-fliers. This one had some great moves and one-upsmanship. Iâm actually quite glad to see WWE pushing Benjamin a bit more these days, but wish tonightâs push hadnât been at the expense of the âresident Redneck.â
Just one thing, Shelton. That whole mic bit with the âAinât no stoppinâ me nowâ thing? It just isnât working with me man.
A disappointing part of the show was watching Shannon Moore, for the most part, get squashed (pun intended) by Big Daddy V. Granted, they let him get in some offense and the smaller, faster Moore even had V down on one knee. However, I think JWY and Moore are a great tag team and watching them both lose in singles action tonight sure didnât help their creds. Hereâs hoping they get a quick rebound.
Batista and MVP squared off again, but this match was by no stretch a repeat of what they did last week. Rather, this weekâs bout between the two was much improved with both selling injuries from the Elimination Chamber well. In fact, MVP dominated the majority of the match ��” something that surely helped his stock despite his eventual loss. But either way, it was much nicer to watch these two square off soundly rather than watching MVP continuously escaping the ring and whining to the ref.
And I donât care who you are, three Spinebusters and a Batista Bomb has got to hurt!
Deuce and Domino again fell victim to the raging machine that is Festus. Oh, and Jesse was there too. Nothing unusual in this match, save the bloody nose on Jesse. Iâm still waiting for opponents of these guys to get the bell involved in their matches and pick up a quick win over a stoic Festus.
As much as I dislike watching Great Khali, he was in action against Kane tonight and the writers did have a pretty good idea on how to end this match. Unfortunately, Khali managed to ruin it. Kane, locked in the head vice, pushed off the ropes and took Khali to his back with the vice still locked in. The key moment came as Kane pushed back and the act resulted in Khali getting pinned. Unfortunately, at least from my view, it sure didnât look like both of Khaliâs shoulders were down.
Fans, keep on chanting.
And now, a moment of silence for an aspiring star, Matt Jackson.

Well, the guy was destroyed by a still-raging Chuck Palumbo as Michelle McCool watched in the back. Coach hinted that we might see Jamie Noble return next week to extract a measure of revenge for the beating he took. That should be fun to see.
And finally tonight, Rey Mysterio made his announcement that he would have to have surgery on his torn bicep and would not be able to compete at WM.
Rey, donât feel bad man. Youâve been working through that thing when Sean OâMac probably would have been found hiding somewhere in a fetal position. Iâve pulled muscles before ��” I canât imagine the pain a complete tear must bring.
Well, Vickie wasnât happy just letting Rey say farewell for now to his San Diego fans. She threw him in a match against ECW Champion Chavo G. Rey did what he does and pulled off a âmiraculousâ win against his old rival, but then was decimated by Big Show who was brought on by a still unsatisfied general manager.
Ok, so nobody is going to know who to cheer for when Show faces Mayweather at â~Mania.
On a side note, the crew did show a kick-ass video featuring Undertakerâs 15-0 streak at WM. Even though some of it may have been hard to make out, it was still fun to watch.
