Kofi Kingston Not From Jamaica? Atlas Ortiz Background

The BBC News website has an article published right now discussing the background of “Jamaican” wrestler Kofi Kingston. The new WWE Intercontinental Champion’s real name is Kofi Sarkodie-Mensah, and his Mother is claiming that he is from Ghana and not from Jamaica. While Kofi is sticking to the story that he is indeed from Kingston, Jamaica, his Mother is quoted as saying “I told him: ‘Kofi, your cousins watch you on TV in Ghana and want to know why you don’t say you’re from Ghana,” to which Kofi replied, “it’s a business.” You can read the entire article at http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/7469398.stm

On last night’s edition of ECW, Atlas Ortiz made his televised debut. Ortiz is formerly Atlas Dabone of OVW and FCW. He began his training in 2006 and was offered a developmental deal by WWE and immediately assigned to OVW. He worked some dark matches for Raw and was slated to move to the main roster in January, but a knee injury sidelined him and postponed his debut until last night. He is credited as being an extremely charismatic individual and most likely was brought up due to his character and mic work. Atlas is also a former football player, having spent time in the XFL, the Canadian Football League (CFL), the Arena Football League (AFL) and the National Football League (on the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad during the 1998 season).
