WWE Expanding Film Division, CW Network President On Losing SD



Variety.com has an article up on the WWE renaming their film division to “WWE Studios”. WWE’s Michael Lake had the following to say: “We’re now in filmed entertainment, not just the film business. If we’re going to be in this business, we need to be in the business.” You can check out the full article HERE.

CW Network President, Dawn Ostroff, did an interview for Zap2It.com where she talks about the overall direction of the network and making the decision to let go of WWE Smackdown. Ostroff said, “It was a really tough decision and a bold decision to decide to take WWE off. It was not easy. The strategy of being able to brand this network was what we were thinking about”.

The branding she is referring to is the simple idea of targeting the 18-34 women demographic. In her words, Smackdown’s audience simply didn’t duplicate to the network’s other shows. You can read the full article HERE.
