Feature: Response to Steve Anderson’s Article On Worst PPV Names

In follow-up to Steve Andersonâs piece on the worst PPV names, I wanted to add a little info on what has been called the worst wrestling PPV ever, and my personal favorite series of PPV names by one company.

Iâll start with the WWA, World Wrestling All-Stars which held PPVs from Oct 2001 ” May 2003 featuring wrestling stars like Jeff Jarrett, Scott Steiner, Sabu, Buff Bagwell, Rick Steiner, Sting, etc. TNA Superstar AJ Styles made his 1st PPV appearance on the Feb 2002 WWA PPV from Las Vegas. The final WWA PPV in May 2003 saw the WWA titles merged with the TNA titles. I even appeared on the April 2002 PPV from Melbourne, Australia, getting punched by Jeff Jarrett to open the show.

But what I liked were the names of the PPVâs which seemed to me like they were a twisted combination of lost Journey record albums titles, religious book titles and porn movie titles.

At least, I know ERUPTION was a 1977 John Holmes film. Google reminds me that he played âPeter❠in the film. Of course he did.

The WWA PPV Titles were:

INCEPTION

REVOLUTION

ERUPTION

RETRIBUTION

RECKONING

Likely the worst PPV ever was on June 19, 1991 in front of 550 fans at the Manatee Civic Center in Palmetto, FL, Herb Abramsâs UWF Beach Brawl which delivered a pay-per-view buy rate of 0.10. The card included current WWE Head Of Talent Relations, John Laurinaitis (Johnny Ace), and a rematch of the WWWF Title match between Bob Backlund and Ivan Koloff that lasted a pulse pounding 2 minutes and 23 seconds.
