WZ Exclusive: Eric Bischoff Comments On New Promotion Rumors

Eric Bischoff recently spoke with WrestleZone.com about the rumors of a new promotion centered around Hulk Hogan and Bill Goldberg. Bischoff explained that although he can’t go into great detail about any negotiations (for obvious reasons), he can say that the rumors being reported are only partially true.

Bischoff and his partner, Jason Hervey, in addition to Hulk Hogan are in talks with CMT and several other companies/networks about the possibility of a new wrestling promotion. They are also talking about taking “Hulk Hogan’s Celebrity Championship Wrestling” on tour as well depending on how it does when it starts airing in October.

However, the major difference between what’s true and what’s being reported is the idea that the promotion will be focused around Hulk Hogan and specifically, Bill Goldberg. Bischoff said that Goldberg was nice enough to help with the new celebrity show, but is not being mentioned as of now in plans for a potential wrestling company in the future.

Bischoff has stated in many past interviews that he would not be interested in starting a wrestling company that would fall into that same “WWE lite” category as others. He said that at least a dozen people have contacted him (some credible and some not) about starting a new company, but unless there’s a new, innovative approach added to the business model and a significant amount of money to work with, he doesn’t want to do it.

“Hulk Hogan’s Celebrity Championship Wrestling” is simply the first step in many steps toward the possibility of a more traditional wrestling company sometime in the future. The idea is to attract both a wrestling audience and a “reality television” audience without offending one or the other.

Offering too little in terms of “reality” could insult your reality fans and offering too little in terms of exposing that side of the business could insult your wrestling fans. Eric Bischoff believes they have found that happy medium with the new CMT show that is set to air on Saturday, October 18th.

Bischoff also encouraged fans to check out Hulk Hogan’s site HERE for bios, photos, and more videos on “Hulk Hogan’s Celebrity Championship Wrestling”. The video has the trailers that you may or may not have seen already, but there’s a couple more videos there that haven’t been put out there yet. You should check them out, a couple of them are quite funny.
