In my last report I noted that Patti Williams (Ian Rottenâs wife) had communicated with David Taylor about the money he is owed by IWA Mid-South, and she assured him a certified check would go out on Thursday, October 9. It is now October 16, one week later, and David Taylor has not received the promised monies. David wrote them an e-mail asking about their failure to live up to a promise. He has not received a responce.
IWA Mid-South continues promoting and has shows October 17-18 with tickets for the two days priced from $40-$70, then the promotion will âtry-outâ wrestlers/victims on Oct 26, and has another show set for November 1. Money is still owed to David and to others including TNA and IWA Mid-South continues business as usual.
You may remember that promoter Dennis âShadyâ Richardson who at least still owes money to Elix Skipper, Angelina Love, ODB & Chris Masters announced on October 5 on his my space site that he had retired. In fact the blog that is still there is titled âShady Retires For Goodâ.
But clearly we all misunderstood him as heâs now promoting another wrestling show on December 20, his farewell show!!!!!!
On the same myspace site, www.myspace.com/shadytongs/ , he has the following posted.
“WM Promotions is proud to announce that Shady will indeed wrestle his final match December 20th, at the Brushfork Armory. Also for one night only, you will get to witness the reunion of Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch; their first match together since WWE. Also in action will be Chris Milenko defending his World Title against War Machine in a Lumberjack Match!”
So he still owes money and I guess was mistaken when he wrote his blog and titled it âShady Retires For Goodâ.
Letâs hope Murdoch & Cade get their money upfront.
Jake Stump of the Charleston, W VA newspaper THE CHARLESTON DAILY MAIL, published an article on the loc.wrestlezone.com coverage of West Virginia promoters who owe wrestlers money and/or false advertise.
In it he had comments from Damien Lee (Gary Ravenscroft), the promoter who false advertised Kevin Nash for a show on October 9, a show that ended up being canceled after he first replaced Nash with Chris Masters. Masters may want to just stay away from West Virginia given his recent bad experiences with two different promoters.
In the newspaper article, Lee said he âdid everything a promoter was supposed to doâ as it relates to Kevin Nash. He claims he mailed Nash money, but that money never arrived. Of course he did not use a type of delivery that would require a signature nor one that could be tracked. Why would he? Doing that might have involved several dollars of additional cost at the post office so clearly was not a good idea and any suggestion it was is just crazy talk. He said he offered Nash an additional $1000 to stay on his show. Wowâ¦$1000 more on top of the other money Nash never got. Thatâs like 1000% more than the nothing Nash got or maybe even more!!! He then said he didnât false advertise Nash because Nash himself promoted the appearance in an interview. Heâs right. Nash was nice enough to do that as he had been told money had been sent, which as we know never happened.
So did Lee lie through his teeth in his comments to the paper, did he never send Nash the money to begin with, and did he advertised Nash for other shows before without paying making this the second time he false promoted him? Well yes he did, but letâs not hold that against him as he âdid everything a promoter was supposed to do.â
By the way, itâs worth noting that if Lee had sent money to Nash for real that money might still arrive, so one would think the promoter would have remembered to note that in his defense. I know if I had a check for several thousand or God forbid a money order or certified check for thousands lost in the mail, Iâd be concerned, but not Lee, and he offered Nash $1000 more he says. Throwing bad money after bad, I guess.
