Feature: Steve Anderson On A Punch That Should Have Meant More

The following comment will be written with the hope of NOT using the terms “man-boobs,” “douche bag,” or “busty bully.” Just tryin’ to class up the joint.

I realize that I follow the well-written opinions of better-known columnists Scott Hudson and Mark Madden, but a guy, no matter how little known, has to get in his licks too.

Just like Joey Styles.

I can’t help but think of that scene in Christmas Story when diminutive Ralphie pummeled that big bully. I wonder if John Bradshaw Layfield cried.

Oh, to be a fly in the wall or a small dog in the fold of JBL’sâ¦

Not gonna say it.

So, the incident has been rehashed over and over on this site and others. JBL harassed Styles over a certain period of time. Styles had enough and popped him. Knowing Joey, this was a last resort. I’ve always found him to be the consummate professional. To push a guy like this to fisticuffs requires the biggest — well, you know — of them all.

Maybe a punch to the mush will finally shut JBL up once and for all.

I doubt it.

Maybe, Vince and those in his Circle of Trust will finally hold JBL accountable and stop the frat-boy hazing.

I seriously doubt it.

You know, I always found it ironic that an insecure, yet top-heavy sociopath could transition out of the professional wrestling industry and into the business world. JBL has been heralded as a financial whiz who beefed up his portfolio, making it as large as hisâ¦

Nope.

He has appeared on high-profile financial news networks. He is an entrepreneur in the business world. Yet, if those white-collar, well-heeled professionals knew of his classless tactics at his avocation, they would likely not want to rub shoulders with him.

Look, while we all can applaud Joey Styles for standing up for himself, this only helps him, not the industry. JBL will continue. He will find a way to justify what he did and take offense at Style’s actions. People like him do not change. And his WWE career will continue, likely without any interruption in push. This story is a big deal for us, but a vast majority of mainstream fans will never hear of it. Just like JBL’s business peers.

JBL was not neutered. He didn’t even lose a testicle. Yes, someone stood up to him and it was a most unlikely conquering hero. But he will continue to bully. Continue to intimidate. Continue displaying his miserable personality and wear his insecurity on his sleeve while taking it out on those he deems insufficient.

And the industry will allow it. While what you see on screen has evolved over the years, this is still a business that continues age-old, outdated traditions. It continues to have its own court system, for crying out loud. Wrestlers are tried, convicted and sentenced by their peers in (da dum dum) Wrestler Court. No other industry would put up with that crap.

Bravo, Joey Styles. You did strike a blow — literally — for others that preceded you. I just wish it could mean something over the long haul.
