Methinks that WWE is engaged in a game of one-upmanship with their rival to the south that is clouding their better judgment.
A post on this site, courtesy of ProWrestling.Net, reveals that WWE folks are cooling on former TNA NWA champ and recent acquisition Ron “The Truth” Killings, now known as R-Truth. Apparently, while getting the pop, he is not popping to their liking in the ring.
Keep in mind that this is a guy who used to work for them.
This situation is strangely replicating another failed TNA to WWE acquisition by the name of Chris Harris, aka Braden Walker. Lots o’ buildup. Tons o’ hype. A big debut and then its all downhill with best wishes in future endeavors. Claims of backstage haughtiness and a difficulty with the good ol’ “WWE style” (whatever that is) apparently were the culprits in the release.
Seriously, either the DVD players and VCRs are broken or those that acquire talent are not thinking things through. Or both.
Or, they are just trying to stick it to TNA in any way they can?
WWE has a history of taking chickensh*t and turning into delicious chicken salad. Their starmaking abilities are without peer. Yes, they have missteps, but they can sniff out that “it” factor better than anyone.
That is, unless they are trying to steal from the competition.
Honestly, I have never been a fan of Killings/R-Truth. His wrestling skills were only slightly better than his rapping ability. That’s not saying much. You know that feeling of embarrassment you get when you see someone semi-making an a$$ of themselves? That’s what I feel when R-Truth is a-rappin’. His freestyling makes me want to freebase.
Chris Harris? Well, if everyone thought as highly of him as he does, he would be WWE champion. He’s a tag team guy, at best. His gimmick in TNA fit. His persona in WWE? Not so much. It’s like he was sabotaged before he ever started. Or sabotaged himself with a reported prima donna attitude.
TNA lost little when both men left. WWE gained by dumping Harris/Walker, providing gainful employment for more deserving talent. R-Truth? Well, if problems are arising already, that does not bode well for his future. And his loss would not be felt.
While TNA is criticized for automatically jumping on WWE talent the minute their contracts lapse, WWE is doing the same, but at a more significant rate of failure. They might want to put a revolving door at their Stamford headquarters specifically for their TNA acquisitions.
A wrestling promotion is at its best when it looks at talent as talent and not the competition’s guy or girl. At times, TNA spends an inordinate amount of time referring to their competition. Waste of time. A bigger waste of time? Taking your resources to sign TNA leftovers, only to have them fail.
That egg on WWE’s face is covering that once acute eye for talent.
