More Details on Manu’s Release, SD! Sets Another TV Record

WWE.com is reporting that Smackdown has set yet another record for MyNetwork TV with this past Friday night’s edition of the show finishing with a

2.3

network rating. The show was watched in 2.66 million homes in The United States.

PWTorch.com is reporting that when news of Manu’s WWE release made its way backstage, some in the company were a bit more surprised by the firing than one would think. Although it was never expected by many that Manu would become a top tier talent, the fact that his work in FCW was impressive lead many to believe that at the very least he would go back to developmental as oppposed to being outright released.

One issue that may have played a very minor role in Manu’s release was the recent work that his father Afa Anoia Sr did for Darren Aronofsky’s "The Wrestler." As we reported on the site, when Vince McMahon originally saw the movie he was not very pleased with it, mostly due to the exposition of what could be called the "dark side" of wrestling. However, it wasn’t until after the movie began gaining more media attention and critical praise that Vince changed his tune and began to accept it.
