Piper Explains Drunken TMZ Incident, Talks Recent WWE Promo

Mark Terry sent along the following to WrestleZone.com:

Just wanted to submit about Roddy Piper making an appearance today and a quick story.

Fangoria had their "Weekend of Horrors" Convention here in L.A.  I was there promoting the movie I produced called "Live Evil", which ironically co-stars Tough Enough II’s Hawk Younkins.  And to answer the question – he is pretty much like you saw him on MTV but they didn’t really do justice to him of what a good guy he is, that’s for sure.

Anyway, this isn’t about him though.  Roddy Piper was at the Convention as well to help promote a horror movie he just did called "A Gothic Tale", so being the big wrestling nut I am I sat in on his Q&A after the screening.

Piper was there with his daughter Ariel Toombs who is also an actress.  She had a movie screening this weekend.  She seemed very sweet and well spoken.

Someone asked Piper about the drunken TMZ deal and Piper went into a story of how it happened.  He for sure didn’t discount anything but really there were two sides to every story.  He said that these TMZ or paparazzi types who snap these pictures (and made a reference to Micheal Phelps) should also include a picture of themselves to be held under the same scrunity for what their actions are, and to that comment everyone applauded.

There was a line out the door of at least 100 people there waiting to meet him.  Piper and his daughter graciously stuck around and signed autographs for free for everyone for no charge.

I got my chance to meet him and have my "mark out" moment and told him that his recent "old school is cool" promo is likely the most heart-felt promo I had seen in my 25 years of watching wrestling weekly.  Just like in Piper fashion he said that whole thing was off the cut and not written for him.  John Cena and company I hope are taking notes.
