WWE RAW Opener: Randy Orton and MVP

We’re introduced to the new General Manager of RAW, already in the ring, Vickie Guerrero. She says she’s proud that Edge captured the World Heavyweight title last night. She then introduces the new WWE champion Randy Orton. Orton’s music hits and out he comes with Legacy. After a long, drawn-out entrance, Orton finally grabs a mic and the crowd chants "you suck" at him. He starts by saying the McMahon family is mourning because their last hope, Triple H, has fallen. Orton says that last night, after five long years, he beat HHH. He says he didn’t just pin him – he beat him. He said he kicked him in the skull as hard as he could and put him out, just like he said he was going to do. Orton gets a bunch of cheap heat, insulting the live audience and TV-viewing fans. Orton talks about how he made history and created a legacy that resulted in the destruction of the entire McMahon-family. A video package airs of all the past interaction between Orton and the McMahon family/HHH. We return from the video and Vickie says she just wants to say she’s so excited that he is on her show as the WWE champion. She says he will have his first title defense in three weeks at Judgment Day. His opponent will be the winner of tonight’s match between The Big Show and Batista. Orton back on the microphone says people don’t have a choice. They don’t have to like him, but they have to respect them. Orton says those who don’t give him the respect he deserves will end up like Triple H. Orton continues on but is interupted by MVP’s music and out comes the United States champion. MVP says what Orton has done is extremely impressive – he’s the WWE champion. MVP says that’s cool but he’s the U.S. champion and he doesn’t answer to anybody. Ted DiBiase Jr. gets on the mic., but is interupted by a "MVP" chant from the crowd. DiBiase says he knows MVP is new to RAW but he doesn’t seem so bright. He says unless he wants his first night on RAW to be his last night, he suggests MVP turn around and leave while he still can. MVP says for DiBiase to be quiet. He insults him and Legacy and says this isn’t a dictatorship and this isn’t the Randy Orton show. He said last time he checked he was drafted to RAW and he didn’t come here to be talked down to. MVP says Orton is champion now but if Batista or Big Show doesn’t beat him at Judgment Day, MVP has no problem handling Orton himself. Cody Rhodes begs Orton to let he and DiBiase take care of MVP. Orton whispers to Vickie Guerrero and she gets on the microphone. She says for the first time ever, the U.S. champ MVP will battle new WWE champion Randy Orton tonight live on RAW. Orton’s music cues to end the segment.

-Jerry Lawler and Michael Cole run down three of the new draft picks who will be coming to RAW. They profile Triple H, Hornswoggle and The Brian Kendrick.

The Brian Kendrick vs. Kofi Kingston

The Brian Kendrick comes out. Lilian introduces him as "Brian Kendrick" and he comes into the ring and corrects her, saying it’s "The Brian Kendrick". Kofi Kingston’s music hits and out he comes. Big missle-dropkick from Kendrick off the top rope. Kendrick puts Kingston in a choke. Kingston works his way out and double-chops Kendrick. Kingston with a high kick, dropping Kendrick. Kingston with a big flying body press off the top, but Kendrick rolls it over into a pin attempt. He only gets two. Kingston hits his finisher and gets the clean pinfall victory.

Winner: Kofi Kingston

Backstage: Cena Injured

Lawler and Cole recap how newsworthy Backlash was last night. They recap the John Cena vs. Edge main event, with still photographs from the PPV, showing how Big Show interfered, costing Cena his title. They put over Cena being injured and say it’s doubtful he’ll be on RAW tonight, or back in WWE at all for a while.

Backstage: Vickie Guerrero & Big Show

We go backstage and see Vickie Guerrero thanking Big Show for helping Edge win the title. Big Show thanks her for giving him a number one contender’s match tonight. He goes to kiss her but she pulls away. She says for the sake of RAW everything from here on out has to be completely professional. Big Show says she’s the boss and he understands.
